This article considers a number of proven methods to arm any
chronic acne sufferer in the battle against this condition.
1. Healthy diet
Increase the number of fruit and vegetables in your diet. A
great way to do this is by drinking smoothies and fruit juices
which are natural and not made from concentrate . Nuts are also
full of vitamins and minerals and are therefore essential in
combating acne.
Recent scientific research shoes that a huge spike in insulin
is caused when there is an over consumption of sugar and
refined foods such as white pasta, white rice, white bread and
white flour. This can cause the skin to greatly increase the
quantity of sebum it produces.
It isn't always possible to consume all the vitamins, minerals
and nutrients the body needs to maintain healthy looking and
acne free skin. Therefore, an effective multivitamin and
mineral supplement is essential as an addition to any acne
treatment along with a fish oil supplement.
There is scientific evidence which suggests that certain foods
are difficult to digest, and are acid-forming in the body. The
condition of the skin is influenced to the health of your
internal organs. If you have difficulty digesting red meat,
your body will struggle to excrete waste products effectively,
which will be excreted from the body via the skin as acne. Many
people are also intolerant to dairy products without realising
it, and a mild intolerance can manifest itself as acne. There
are plenty of alternatives to dairy these days - and you can
create simple and nutritious nut milks at home, such as the
calcium-rich sesame and banana super smoothie.
2. Use gentle products for healthy skin
Using harsh chemicals can make acne sufferers' skin worse. This
is because the chemicals can reduce the quantity of the skin's
natural oils resulting in the skin producing more oil in
response. This results in blocked pores and more acne. If
possible, try to use products that include many natural
ingredients such as witch hazel and tea tree oil.
3. Drink plenty of Water
Drink at least two litres water a day. This can be tap water,
bottled water or even fruit and herbal teas.
4. Take a Probiotic supplement
Antibiotics are commonly prescribed to acne sufferers.
Unfortunately, these also kill the beneficial bacteria in your
digestive tract. This can result in the ineffective absorption
of essential vitamins and minerals.
5. Decrease the levels of stress in your life
This can be easier said than done but stress is a major cause
of acne. Controlling stress can reduce the release of the
stress hormone cortisol, and therefore reduce the severity of
the acne.
6. Reduce caffeine consumption
Limit your consumption of coffee, tea, chocolate and other
stimulant containing drinks as this can increase the number of
stress hormones in your body.
7. Spend plenty of time outside!
The sun raises the levels of vitamin D in the body which is an
essential vitamin for healthy skin. Just 20 minutes spent
outdoors every day will reduce stress and increase oxygen to
the skin. However. make sure you take precautions and treat the
sun with respect by putting at least factor 15 suncream on and
avoiding the sun at peak times ie between 11 and 2.
